Barnsley Hospice 

Hospice Practitioners provide medical cover together with three Consultants in Palliative Medicine.

There is 24 hour cover by the medical team. This also includes an out of hours telephone advice service called "Pallcall". This is available for professionals in hospitals and the community who are looking after palliative care patients and also for patients and relatives in the community who want advice out of hours.

The doctors work closely with GPs and hospital consultants and a clinical administration team provides support for all the clinical staff.

The medical team are always available for advice.

The service now have a social worker employed by the hospice on our in patient unit to support families and carers.

The Limes Day Therapy Unit

The Limes Day Therapy Unit provides compassionate expert care and support for people with active, progressive and life-limiting illnesses and those caring for them.

We aim to promote a sense of well-being in a relaxed and caring environment.

We now have a social worker employed by the hospice on our patient unit to support families and carers

The Inpatient Unit is open 7 days per week and takes admission 7 days a week.

Bereavement

We offer one-to-one support and a drop in bereavement support group.

Patients can be referred to our services through their GP, Macmillan Nurse, Community Nurse/Matron, social worker or other medical professionals.  Alternatively, patients and their carers can attend our drop-in service for support and advice.

Accessing the service

Referral guidelines

Referrals to all services must be made on the district-wide referral form. If you are unsure about making a referral, or would like to discuss if a patient is suitable to access the Hospice, please call our team on 01226 244 244. Please be aware that we are unable to accept referrals over the phone. 

If you think it would be helpful for a patient or carer to visit the Hospice prior to referral, please contact us to arrange a convenient time.
