BMJ Clinical pointers: Palliative care in non-malignant disease

Patients with end-stage non-malignant disease may not receive the same level of palliative care compared with patients with cancer, even though they often experience similar distressing symptoms. Palliative care should be based on need rather than diagnosis; this module provides evidence based, practical tips to help improve the practice of GPs in providing palliative care to patients with non-malignant disease.
