The Cardiology Department at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust cares for patients with heart disease including angina, heart attacks, heart valve problems, arrhythmias (irregular heart rate), cardiomyopathies and congenital disorders.
Our comprehensive range of specialist cardiology clinical services and facilities include a Coronary Care Unit, cardiac catheter laboratory, non-invasive diagnostic testing, pacemaker and enhanced external counter-pulsation therapy (EECP) services, in addition to the usual inpatient wards and outpatient clinics.
We carry out a comprehensive range of diagnostic tests and procedures, including:
Electrocardiography (ECG) – heart tracings
Ambulatory ECG monitoring – ECG machine you wear whilst being able to undertake daily activities
Ambulatory BP monitoring – BP machine you wear whilst being able to undertake daily activities
Exercise testing
Echocardiography – heart ultrasound
Transoesophageal echocardiography (TOE) – alternative way to perform a heart ultrasound
Angiography – medical imaging technique
Pacemaker implantation
