DXA (DEXA) Scanning Service service

The DXA scanning service provides the technology for the diagnosis of osteoporosis by completing a dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) scan.

The result of the scan is then interpreted by a consultant physician in association with the patient’s individual risk factors for osteoporosis. The patient bone health and fracture risk are considered and a treatment advice plan is then sent to the patient’s GP. In addition, the service provides education and advice sessions for groups and/or individuals as requested

Specific exercise programmes are provided on individual request by the physiotherapists from the specialist community falls service.

Referrals for advice, education and exercise are also accepted by GPs
