Constipation campaign for people with learning disabilities

Date: 08 August 2023

Constipation can be a life-threatening issue for people with a learning disability who are at heightened risk of complications if it is left untreated. 23 per cent of people with a learning disability who died in 2019 had constipation as a long-term condition. The NHS has co-produced campaign resources and a toolkit with people with a learning disability to highlight the seriousness of the condition. These resources will be of interest to councils, social care staff and communication leads.
