Domestic Abuse Services in Barnsley

Date: 07 July 2017

Domestic Abuse Services in Barnsley:

Domestic abuse services for Barnsley will now be provided by the Independent Domestic Abuse Service (IDAS). IDAS is the largest specialist charity in Yorkshire supporting anyone experiencing or affected by domestic abuse or sexual violence. Their services include refuge accommodation, community based support, peer mentoring, group work and access to a free, confidential helpline. Accredited specialist workers (IDVA’s and ISVAs) support people through the criminal justice system in additional to providing emotional support and safety planning advice.

Contact details for the service are below:

Once an IDVA has been allocated a case they will make contact with the GP practice for any relevant information but also to share that a domestic abuse risk has been identified. For medium and low risk cases this will be after the IDVA has gained consent from the client. For high risk cases consent is not required. The IDVA will record any relevant information on their MARAC research form to be shared and will ensure that the GP is updated following MARAC. This process will happen on an initial 3 month trial basis following which a formal information sharing model will be developed based on an evaluation of the trial.
