Developmental milestones with red flags

Developmental red flags - when to refer

Developmental Assessment (paediatrics.co.uk)

In Barnsley a referral is made to community paediatrics if there is either:

·         2 or more areas of development delayed (Global delay or now more frequently referred to as EDI – Early developmental Impairment)

·         Isolated delay in motor skills (and at the same time a referral must be made to OT or physio)

·         Referrals for speech delay can only be accepted by speech therapist – so any delay should be referred to speech therapy

The very young children (i.e. at 6 week check) tend not to be seen by us and usually get referred to acute paediatrics.

If there are any doubts about if a child should be referred we are always more than happy to talk on phone to find the best approach for the child.

N.B. OFC means Occipital frontal circumference (head circumference)
