Gynaecology Referral Requirements/Investigations (added 11.06.25)

The Directory of Services for Gynaecology Referrals to Barnsley Hospital has been updated to specify the requirements for investigations for certain symptoms prior to referral.

 

Investigation requirements for patients referred to the gynaecology service, Barnsley Hospital:

 

For any of the following symptoms, a pelvic ultra-sound scan MUST be completed:

 

-Bleeding irregularities: heavy menstrual bleeding/post-coital/irregular bleeding/suspected fibroids.

-Pelvic pain.

-Suspected adnexal masses.

-Subfertility referrals

Without this, the service is unable to review a patient’s symptoms and provide a diagnosis and treatment.
