First Contact Physiotherapy Service
A number of Physiotherapists are placed in practices across Barnsley and have clinics that can be booked in to by any Barnsley patient at any site over the age of 16 who needs to see a Physio.
The Physiotherapist will:
- Assess you and diagnose what’s happening
- Give expert advice on how best to manage your condition
- Refer you on to specialist services if necessary

No GP referral is necessary, practice receptionists can book patients in to clinics.
Double appointments available for more complex needs or for patients who require a translator.
Please note it is the practice's responsibility to book a translator.
Who should be referred
Inclusion Criteria
- All soft tissue injuries, sprains, strains or sports injuries
- Arthritis – any joint
- Possible problems with muscles, ligaments, tendons or bone, eg tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome, ankle sprains
- Spinal pain including lower back pain, mid-back pain and neck pain
- Spinal-related pain in arms or legs, including nerve symptoms, eg pins and needles or numbness
- Changes to walking
- Post-orthopaedic surgery
Exclusion Criteria
- Acutely unwell
- Children under 16
- Medical management of rheumatoid conditions
- Women's Health, antenatal and postnatal problems
- Housebound patients
- medical reviews for MSK conditions
- Headaches
- Acute mental health crises
