Outpatient clinics

General gastroenterology clinics are running on most days of the week where new and follow up patients are seen. In addition a liver clinic has now been established to treat patients with liver disease and viral hepatitis.

New patients can currently expect a clinic appointment within 4-6 weeks of their GPs referral.

Endoscopic services

  • Diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy
  • Diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy
  • Diagnostic and therapeutic ERCP
  • Wireless capsule endoscopy
  • Open access gastroscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy
  • Nutritional support – NJ tubes, PEGS, PEG-Js
  • Endoscopic mucosal resection for flat polyps
  • Oesophageal, enteral and colonic stenting

Colorectal cancer screening

Our department is a JAG approved endoscopy unit and we are one of only 100 hospitals in the country to offer bowel cancer screening. This is available to people between 60-69 years of age who will be invited to attend by letter.

People receiving the invitations for screening who need further information or people aged over 70 who would like to participate can call the freephone helpline on 0800 707 60 60 or visit cancerscreening.nhs.uk/bowel.

  • Comprehensive radiological investigations including MRCP and cross sectional imaging
  • Comprehensive pathology and histopathology services
  • Breath testing for helicobacter pylori, bacterial overgrowth and lactose intolerance
