Talking Therapies (formerly known as IAPT)

Barnsley NHS Talking Therapies (Formerly IAPT ) is a service that offers confidential support to individuals dealing with common mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, phobias, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), among others. Our service offers evidence-based therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), counselling, and other psychological interventions that are delivered through workshops or one-on-one sessions.

The service aims to help individuals improve their mental wellbeing by equipping them with the tools and techniques to manage their symptoms effectively.

Workshops

The team is currently offering a range of free workshops to help boost mental health and wellbeing.

Support offered

      • Assessment of mental health needs
      • Signposting to voluntary sector organisations and other services in order to meet people’s needs
      • Psychoeducation group to manage stress (Stress Pac)
      • Guided self-help
      • cCBT – an online computer programme for depression
      • Self-help books
      • Pain management package
      • Agoraphobia package
      • Step 2 obsessive compulsive package
      • Counselling for depression
      • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy
      • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
      • Cognitive behaviour groups for trauma, depression and anxiety and low mood.
      • The service offer is provided in Barnsley College for students
      • Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Intensive Care Unit department has commissioned a cognitive behaviour therapist to provide trauma-focused cognitive behaviour therapy within the department for one day a week.

Hours:  Monday – Friday 8.00am – 8.00pm

Referral guidelines

The common mental health conditions to be targeted by talking therapies are as follows:

      • Generalised anxiety disorder (GAD)
      • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) – simple presentation
      • Depression
      • Phobias
      • Obsessional compulsive disorder (OCD)
      • Body dysmorphic disorder (with mild functional impairment)
      • Panic disorder (with or without agoraphobia)
      • Social anxiety
      • Health anxiety
