Cellulitis - IV Teicoplanin for treatment of Cellulitis GP referral

Eligibility / Inclusion Criteria:

  • Patient consents to home IV therapy
  • Reliable diagnosis and treatment plan
  • Medically stable and does not require hospital based monitoring  
  • GP referral, with all required clinical information completed
  • Complies with BHNFT consultant Microbiologists guidelines for referral
  • Requires antibiotic treatment where  there is  no effective oral alternatives available
  • Has adequate support at home and are able to care for intravenous access responsibly
  • Must be over 18 years old (or 16+ in exceptional circumstances)
  • Patient must live in the Barnsley Borough or be registered with a Barnsley GP
  • The patient must have a telephone at home to be able to access help in case of emergency

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Patient declines
  • Hypersensitive/allergy to antibiotic
  • Pregnant/lactating women (subject to clinical review)
  • Hepatic and/or renal disease (subject to clinical review)
  • Neutropaenia
  • Inability to manage at home
  • Likelihood of non-compliance
  • Co-existing morbidity requiring admission
  • Class 3 and 4 cellulitis
  • Substance abuse and alcoholics are excluded
  • Clinical support group
    • Dermatology, MSK and Rheumatology
    • Laboratory investigations and Infections
