Perinatal mental health support in Barnsley

Date: 27 April 2023

Information from South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust

It’s Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week and we thought it would be a good chance to remind people about our services who provide mental health and wellbeing support for women perinatally and postnatally. As recommended by NICE, all health professionals should ask about the mental health of all perinatal women.

One in five women develop mental health difficulties during pregnancy or within a year of giving birth. Timely and early help is important to reduce the risk of symptoms getting worse, and to support people to recover quicker.

A number of professionals and services offer help and support during pregnancy and early parenthood to help mums stay as well as possible.

Attached to this email are resources which may be helpful for you to share with women perinatally and postnatally about how to access support should they need it.
