New NICE patient decision aid

Research shows a third of people with asthma are not using their inhalers correctly and not managing symptoms as well as they could be. The NHS Long Term Plan sets out an ambition to tackle this, and the new Patient decision aid – Inhalers for asthma from NICE supports this.

The decision aid is designed to help those with asthma and their healthcare professional discuss the different inhaler devices available and which one is right for them.

Glove Aware

To coincide with World Hand Hygiene Day on 5 May, we’re hosting Glove Awareness Week from 30 April to raise awareness of skin health and appropriate glove use by nursing staff.

We are running Glove Awareness Week to highlight when gloves should and shouldn't be worn and how to look after your skin to prevent infection.

Approximately one in five nurses develop hand dermatitis – a painful, debilitating condition which may require nursing staff to be moved out of clinical areas due to the risk of infection from damaged skin.

Hand dermatitis can be caused by frequent exposure to water, cleaning agents and inappropriate glove use.
